B2B Quick Update

Back in CT for the night before I head back to MA after the long drive back from NC.

Results:
12:17:35 (S=55:58, B=6:45:59, R=4:18:16)
179th OA out of 500
14th M 25-29 out of 22

This was not the race I had expected nor wanted to have. Morning started off with a rear flat before the race started and then 2 front flats during the race.

Full report to follow.

I know this race didn't go as you had hoped, but I'm still in awe of the fact you even participate. I mean who in their right mind would want to exercise for 11 to 12 hours straight! You're awesome!

Looking forward to seeing you in Providence!

BTW, you finished 159th overall, not 179th.

Scott, might not have been the race you wanted, but you did it. Iron distance is a very, very difficult distance to grasp. It's not about just swimming, biking and running. And still, you've done very, very well for a first go at this distance. Seriously, understand that. After more experience you'll no doubt knock off HOURS off this time. I mean that. Again, it's a very difficult distance. But now you have the base to move it up a notch. And you have the experience.

And really sorry to hear about the flats. That happened to me at Worlds. Had a flat in the rear tire morning of the race. Swapped that out before the race even started. And then I was flatted on the front not even 25 yards beyond the bike mount line. It sucked. And it sucked for you. Still, you hung strong.

Remember, this is a stepping stone to greatness, for you will use this as an aid to learn, and you will get out there again and kick some butt.

So hold your head high. What you just accomplished, and in the time you did, was truly remarkable. It's a feat that not many people can even fathom let alone do. Yet you did it.

Scott,
What an amazing accomplishment,
you finished an Ironman!

We know it was not the finish you had hoped for, but you overcame the obstacles and gave it all you had. We all had a great time cheering for you and really enjoyed the Ironman experience.

Get some rest, you certainly earned it.

We look forward to
another successful triathlon season in 2009!

Scotty-
Way to gut it out bro. I can't believe the bad luck with the flats. You didn't mention the cold on the bike, that almost made me DNF!! I echo everything that Thor said. You have amazing talent and its only going to be a matter of time until you gain the experience to smoke an IM.

Congratulations for finishing your first iron distance race. I can't imagine what it must feel like to have such bad luck in race, but to still continue despite everything that happened says a lot about you as an athlete. You should be very proud of yourself. You did amazing. And I totally agree with Thor that you will be knocking HOURS off if you do it again.

Scott and I are looking forward to seeing you more often once we move further up the east coast.
